From a List of Movies to this....

Glinda over at TeenyMalono just posted her Top Ten Family Christmas Movies, and I must say that I was not prepared for this.

Christmas Movies? Already?

I mean, I realize that there are already a few in the theaters, we've already survived Black Friday, and I'm even thinking about getting the lights up today, but I'm not ready to start thinking about the movies yet. I'm just barely ready for 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown', and I don't think I'd even think that would hold my attention long enough.

To me Christmas movies means Winter Break from school and wasting time in front of the boob-tube watching whatever was on. They aren't quite nostalgic for me yet, except maybe those oddly animated Christmas Classics of Rodolph and Jack Frost. I never really cared for 'A Christmas Story', however I am still a fan of 'A Christmas Carol'. I did enjoy 'Elf' when we finally saw it last year, but most of those other ones I could pretty much pass on this year.

Perhaps it's because I'm still kidless and I'm in this in-between mode of what this time of year means to me. Perhaps it's because these last few months have been sort of crazy between the wedding, and the surgery and then me diving head first into work, that I haven't slowed down enough to realize I need to slow down to reflect on this season. Perhaps it's because I want this Christmas to just sorta slide on by since we aren't going to visit either my brother or Eric's sister this year. I thought I really wanted us to spend our first Christmas with just us (and my parents because they'll be involved I'm sure), but maybe I'll have to rethink that.

Who knew Glinda's post about movies would trigger so much introspection. Thank you oh mighty Good Glinda, for you may have saved Christmas!

I am soooo not ready for Christmas. And I feel really bad about it, as my kids are getting excited! Especially Little G, she's wanting the tree up and everything already ...and I've got to deal with a little Birthday celebration for her a couple days before too.
It'll hit me soon enough though, I love Christmas. We'll have my husband's clan over. It will be busy, but a lot of fun too!

The problem with Christmas movies, at least the groovy Rudolf and so on, is that they play them so early on in December, that if you wait until you're ready for them, they're gone. Muh.

My little guy CANNOT WAIT until Christmas, and it is so fun to get caught up in all that with him. Reminding him, of course, that it is not ALL about presents. Ha. To a five year old? It is.

And that Glinda, she is seriously one of the most awesome bloggers out there, isn't she? She's saved Christmas and what's next? The Nobel Peace Prize for sure.

I was telling Maya about my trip to Guyana in 1988 and how they celebrated the 12 days of Xmas -- starting on Xmas day, I think. There were parties every night and because there really wasn't a big build up to one day, one could take time and really enjoy the season with family and friends.

We put up our Christmas decorations yesterday, and I'm happy the season is upon us. As soon as I see Santa at the end of the Thanksgiving Day parade, I always feel of thrill!

A Christmas Story is my favorite Christmas movie. "You'll shoot your eye out!" :)

I also really loved The Nativity Story that was in theatres last Christmas. Definitely worth renting the DVD.

Oh, I'm so excited for Christmas already. It's my absolute favorite time of year. And the Christmas movies are the absolute best of all.

Ever since I was a child it’s the Christmas Classics that really bring out the magic of the holidays for me. Wrapping up on the couch with my family and watching Frosty the Snowman or Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town - I’m transported back to my own childhood, and I feel the same peace and joy I did watching those same timeless movies with my parents.

I’m really glad I don’t have to wait for them to come on TV this year. Now there is a limited collector edition DVD box-set of all the Christmas Classics available, containing my two favorite Christmas movies plus five more. It even comes with a bonus music CD containing 7 favorite holiday songs! I only know about it because I work with the company, but you can buy it wherever you do your Christmas shopping. This is something my family and I will treasure for many holiday seasons to come.
