It's that time of the year

We have had a few consistantly chilly days here in the SF Bay Area, and the holiday decorations are starting to appear in the shopping center parking lots. This weekend I experienced my first craving of what now makes it the holidays for me.

Starbuck's Eggnog Latte

Yes, I know many people do not care for eggnog, and the thought of throwing in a shot of espresso sound revolting, but it has become my holiday treat. I don't drink them full fat with whip anymore. I go skinny no whip now that I actually read the nutritional information. HALF the fat for no whip! And by going with non-fat milk I can still get a grande. Granted it practically becomes a meal replacement, but I'll eat salad if I can get my latte.

Last weekend we stopped in at our local Trader Joe's (LOVE THAT PLACE), and noticed the holiday decorations on the buildings and I could smell the coffee a brewin' at the Starbucks on the corner.

Eric said, "Is it time for a Pumpkin Spice Latte?"
I said "No, that was last month. It's Eggnog time."

I find it slightly revolting that Starbucks marketing has entered our vocab for describing the seasons/times of the year.

I have somehow managed to avoid the entire Starbucks phenomenon.

It is revolting, though all delicious! :)

But wouldn't pumpkin spice latte be for Thanksgiving? What happened to Thanksgiving? Is that cranberry sauce latte? Or Turkey gravy latte? :)

Starbucks hasn't come to this corner of Juneau, although we have our coffee houses and many grocery stores serve free coffee, because Alaskans love it almost as much as we love ice cream.

I've tried the Eggnog Latte before, and it's pretty good. But I like the real thing more! :-)

Just thought I'd say hi as I'm trying to visit and comment on as many of the NaBloPoMo blogs as I can. :)

Usually when I go to Starbucks, I'll have one of the frappuccino drinks, but I did try the white chocolate espresso (?) once and that was not bad at all.

J - Yea, I suppose the Pumpkin Spice latte's timespan would be more Halloween through Thanksgiving. It really is THE Autumn drink. And Eggnog is more for winter. Since we don't really have a distinction between fall and winter here as it can still be warm in the fall, I just associate the EggNog latte with the chill in the air, the dark evenings, the holiday decorations, and that warm fuzzy cheerful feeling I get at this time of year. :-)

Ally Bean - I have gotten this drink at many a Starbucks and whip has been offered a few times, although I don't think it is supposed to have it.

I did the egg nog latte yesterday. While it doesn't agree with my stomach, I HAVE TO HAVE IT! I find it very yummy!
