To Be Queen? or King?

The decision to purchase a new bed has been made, but now for the next big step.... King or Queen??

Luckily we are pretty sure what mattress set we will get, as we recently stayed at a Hilton Hotel and we LOVED the bed there, and it turns out you can purchase some of the items made specifically for Hilton. Eric and I very rarely agree on mattresses so the fact that we both happily slept on a bed for multiple nights with no complaints is really big.

But the size is still up for discussion. We currently have a Cal-King which is big and luxurious but as mentioned, it's big and takes up a lot of the bedroom. It also damaged the ceiling when we were trying to get it up the stairs in our little townhouse so something a little smaller would be easier to get into the space. We are looking to move in a year and likely to an older neighborhood with older houses which have little bedrooms, plus a smaller bed would show the master bedroom better when we do get this place on the market. But alas, the cats really do take up a lot of room, so it is nice to be able to sleep 2 to the bed plus have ample room for the fur babies. AND... we would have to purchase new linens (although we still have a set from the wedding we haven't opened yet -Thanks Liz! - so we should be able to do a trade on those).

What a quandary!

Space is an important issue to consider, but I sure am loving our king!

Once you go king you can never go back to queen!!!!
I vote king!

Oh! Go for the King! I wouldn't even care if it took up my entire bedroom from wall to wall. We have a Queen and it is NOT enough room for me, hubby and whatever child ends up in bed with us - and we don't have LITTLE ones anymore! I vote for King, King, King.

Good luck!

I like the name of the bed on the Hilton site: "SERENITY BED" Reminds me of Seinfeld when George's dad kept yelling out "Serenity now!"

ok I'm definitely feeling the quandry. Because I just had to have my King moved to my apartment and what an effing nightmare that was. My friend asked me what the heck was in that thing. It felt like moving a safe. So I don't envy anyone having to move your new King size bed...but I also don't envy anyone sleeping in a Queen either. haha

That didn't help, did it?

We had to switch from a King to a Queen, because the pillowtop thing we chose wouldn't make it up the stairs. :( Poor Ted, whenever I get up for something, I can see his arm relax and stretch out to where it wants to be...right where my face usually is!

We have a Cal-King and we love it!

But, Hubba-hubba is a restless sleeper, so it's to retain my sanity.

Go for the King! We have one, but hubbs still hogs the bed. Dunno why...I guess the bed is always greener on the other side :) I wonder if he thinks my side is better. Hmmm...maybe I'll trade him and see what happens.

I liked our Queen bed. But we had jumped up from a full (Yes we slept in a full bed together for 10 years). We did sleep in a few kings on honeymoon and vacation once or twice but it just seemed so very big. Both of us we cuddlers and it just seemed like he was so far away.

We bought a KING after our boy turned about 2; and there's no going back because now the BOTH of them come into bed and it's seems awfully small for FOUR! So if you've got the cats, and perhaps eventually kids... well, the KING is the only option. And it's hard to go back after having it, I'm sure.

We've got a Queen and it's great for just Hubby and me. Like you, we've got kitties who like to cuddle too! I think maybe the next bed we get might have to be a King!

Can't wait to hear what you guys decide on!!!

Well, Peter and I have a queen (actually 2, but soon just 1!). And even though the dog (the size of a small person) and the cat sleep with us, it works out ok. Except for when I wake up with my left butt cheek hanging off the edge of the bed. Still, I love the queen, and think a king would leave too much room between me and my sweetie. You and Eric are little people - cuddle up and you could even sleep on a double :)

When I was growing up I really wanted a four poster bed (queen anne). When we got married we started out on a king but when we went shopping for my dream bed it looked funny as a king so we bought the queen. My mother said we would be sorry but 12 years later we are still happy with it. Of course, we do not share it with cats or children, either.

I don't believe you'll be happy downsizing. We've had a king for 37 years. We do occasionally have to sleep on a queen and it is alright for a night or two but not full time. I know what you mean about the Hilton bed. I added two mattress pads to mine to get that feeling on top. We have a fairly new mattress set, Sealy which we love. With it we had the option of a thinner box spring which keeps the height down. I'm pretty particular about my bed. I think an investment in nice linens is worth it. I've found some at B,B&B that I really like.
